The author, Wil Dieck, has done a wonderful job with this book! It is very well written and very inspirational/motivational. I loved how he included little short stories into the book, so we could have examples of what he was getting at, which was great! This book has really helped me to be better and happier with myself. Having a black belt mindset is what I am going to try my best to at from now. This book has taught me so much for the little that it costs. I am so lucky I got the chance to read this book!
Everyone should read this book! Success starts in the mind and if you don't have the right mindset, it doesn't matter what tools or team you have in place. When you're fully prepared, you can take a business of any size and make it ten times more successful. There are so many tips in this book that will put you on the right track and make sure you spend time on the right portions of your business or project. A book like this should be on the bookshelf of anyone who wants to be successful and make a difference--don't miss it!
I enjoyed reading this book as it has motivated me to do some introspection on my life; something I have not done in a very long time. Having a black belt mindset is about connecting your values with your time for success in anything that you do. So how can you be successful? There are a lot of practical tips in this book to get you started, but you need to take action for a return on your investment. As Professor D says “The only difference between me and you is a little practice”. I am reminded that practice is what I need to do on a regular basis if I want to achieve that which I have set my eyes upon.
As a yogini, I'm always looking for other ways to combine mind, body and spirit. I'm not very familiar with the maritial arts, so this book was a nice introduction told with both the author's personal narrative as well as exemplars from stage and screen who I am already familiar. If you're looking for a new perspective to how our minds create our worlds, and our own prisons if we're not aware of our choices, this book does the trick without being preachy or sanctimonious. It also offers a broad enough overview to keep newbies like myself from feeling bogged down in technical jargon or processes that are unfamiliar.
If you're into martial arts or Black Belt, or if you're looking for a motivational book that shows how you can be successful using your body and mind, this is the book for you. Written by a teacher who loves teaching communications, group theory, social psychology, research methods, and psychology as well as martial arts, this book includes specific methods, called Black Belt Mind Secrets, that help you with shortcuts on the path of developing the Black Belt Mindset. Shortcuts that'll help blast through barriers in your mind for more personal and professional success. So, it's not just about martial arts. It's about shifting thinking to live a long, healthy, and abundant life. The author alludes to our minds as our GPS systems. Keep your mind up-to-date just as you have to keep a GPS System up-to-date. Old programming can hold you back. Full of information, you'll learn and discover within these pages.
This book is great for anyone who needs to build their self-confidence or prepare their mindset for any area of life, not just martial arts. Dieck walks you through process of the mind, gives examples that apply to real-life (including anecdotes and other interesting stories) and uses easy to understand language that makes this book an interesting but easy read. Though I am certainly not a black belt, I found the information in this book to be quite helpful. I found myself asking, "Why do I say negative things to myself? What could I accomplish if I was speaking more positively to myself? What am I doing to hold myself back that I can change?" Dieck explains how mindset can be the cause of our self-limiting behaviors, but he also gives practical strategies and plans for overcoming that mindset. I highly recommend this book, not only to people active in the martial arts but to anyone who can use a pep talk, a new beginning, a better outlook on life.
I really enjoyed this book! It presents a good balance of success tips and real-life examples, with the underlying theme of becoming a martial arts master. While that is the theme, you don't need to know martial arts to benefit from this book. You can apply the "black belt mindset" to any area of your life, regardless of your age, background, or physical ability.

The engaging examples sprinkled throughout the chapters come from the author's life, from scientific studies, and from true-life stories of successful people who've overcome failure and obstacles to achieve their goals. These examples do a good job of illustrating the points made.

As for the mindset itself, it's explained through a process that encompasses every key element. The author expertly takes us from how the subconscious works for and against us, how our beliefs evolve and shape us, and how our fears develop, to how to develop new useful habits, how to persist through challenges, and how to achieve the transformation we want. But that's just the tip of the iceberg; there's much, much more here, all of it enlightening and useful.

My only complaint is that I found a few too many typos for my taste. But I was able to overlook these. The information itself is gold and the examples are compelling.
